Welcome to our website! Paradise Cemetery is located on the Northwest edge of Paradise, Texas. The 1552 headstones were surveyed and photographed in December of 1999.

● Dr. M. W. Matthews (December 29, 1806 - April 13, 1891)
Dr. Mansell Walter Matthews came to Texas from Tennessee in 1836 and was Sam Houston’s medical surgeon during the Texas Independence Battle at San Jacinto. Dr. Matthews was a pioneer of the Disciples of Christ in Texas, lived his later years in Wise County and owned a drug store in Paradise Prairie [old town Paradise]. Dr. Matthews, a preacher of the gospel, was instrumental in establishing the Disciples of Christ group in Paradise Prairie. At his death in 1891, Dr. Matthews was laid to rest in the Paradise Cemetery where his grave possesses a historical marker that was erected in 1971.
● George Lafayette Ramsdale (1820 - 1884)
George Lafayette Ramsdale was born in Devonshire, England in 1820. By 1836, George had come to the United States and lived in South Texas. George entered the Republic of Texas Army in 1836 (at the age of 16) where he fought in the battle of San Jacinto on April 21 of that same year. George was discharged from the Texas Army on August 30, 1836 at which time he received one land bounty warrant for his military service and a yearly pension. In his later years, George and his family lived near Rhome TX in Wise County. In 1884, George came to the town of Paradise to visit his son, William Ramsdale who was a Paradise merchant and the Paradise postmaster. While visiting in Paradise, George became ill and died on April 17, 1884 at the age of 64. He is buried in theParadise cemetery, and his grave possesses a historial marker that tells of his service in the Texas Revolution.
