Frequently Asked Questions
  • So are you Protestant or Catholic?
The Anglican Reformers considered their church to be Reformed Catholic, and this is the sense in which we use the word: catholic meaning universal, that which was believed and taught by the early undivided Church, and Anglican meaning out of the English tradition.

  • Are you a part of the recognized Anglican Communion?
Yes. We have been received into the diocese of Katakwa, in the Anglican Church of Kenya, which is a province of the 80+ million member worldwide Anglican Communion.

  • How do you pay your people?
We don't! Looking to St. Paul in the ancient Church and the worker-priest movement of the last century our clergy and religious are non-stipendiary, which means that they're expected to work for a living like every-one else. Although a laborer is worthy of his hire, clergy and religious are especially called to be the leaven that leavens the whole lump, not a special, separate class of Christian.

  • Do you accept gay people?
We absolutely accept all of God's children into our fellowship; however we believe that marriage was ordained by God in creation as existing between one man and one woman, and that only this union is sanctioned by God and His Church.

  • Do you ordain women?
As members of the Anglican Church of Kenya we ordain women deacons and presbyters [priests], but do not elevate women to the episcopate [make them bishops]. We respect the views of those provinces and jurisdictions that do not ordain women, understanding that both of these traditions have existed since the earliest days of the Church. The ordination of women, like married clergy, is a discipline of the Church and not a doctrine that must be accepted one way or the other to ensure salvation.

  • Why should I join with you?
What's important is that you accept the Lord Jesus as your King and Savior. All we have to offer is the love of Christ crucified, the faith of the ancient and undivided Church, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. We would admonish you with the words of the Blessed Mother spoken to the servants at Cana, "Do whatever He tells you."
