We're pleased to announce that The Reverend Shaw Phoenix of St. Charles Anglican Mission has just received the Lifetime Award from the President's Council on Volunteerism.
Awards are graduated according to the number of documented hours that an individual has spent in volunteer service: the fewest recognized hours garner a bronze award, then silver, then gold, and finally the Lifetime award. There is no award beyond Lifetime.
We're grateful to the Lord for all of our co-workers, understanding that there is an especial load placed upon clergy who must work to support themselves and their families, and then as an additional burden, pay also to do the work of ministry. St. Paul gives us a living example of the worker-priest in Acts, chapter 18, where we see him working alongside Aquila and Priscilla as a tent-maker or leather-worker: from this vantage point among the people he preached the gospel, converted many, and supported himself and him ministry with the work of his hands.
